Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands – Following the implementation of the Labour (National Minimum Basic Wage) Order, 2016 as of March 1st and the passage of the National Pensions (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (NPL) in the Legislative Assembly this month, the Department of Labour & Pensions (DLP) has launched a new website and created a Facebook page to better communicate with the public about the Department’s services, and provide information about the new laws.

The new site, www.dlp.gov.ky, will be the resource for copies of the laws, answers to frequently asked questions and information about the three units of the DLP – Labour, Pensions and Inspections. Employees and employers can also use the minimum wage calculator on the site to determine if wages are being paid in accordance with the Labour (National Minimum Basic Wage) Order, 2016. The DLP’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/CIDepartmentLabourPensions, will be the source for latest news and information coming out of the Department.

“With the recent amendments to the National Pensions Law approved in the Legislative Assembly earlier this month, it is important that employers and employees alike are aware of the impending changes and how they will impact their lives in the workplace,” said Hon. Tara Rivers, Minister of Employment. “The goal is to give people as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions about their future as it relates to pensions and retirement, and also to ensure that they are compliant with the labour and pensions laws of the Cayman Islands.”

“These two resources will be invaluable mediums for the Department to provide material that assists in our public education initiatives. It will give employees and employers the ability to access relevant Labour and Pensions Law developments and resources,” added Bennard Ebanks, DLP Director. “The NPL is a result of a highly engaging consultative and legislative reform process, and although the laws themselves are very comprehensive, the DLP Facebook page and website will aim to break the information down, and make it easier to understand.”

Ebanks also reminded the public of the confidential hotline (945-3073) that people can call to report labour and pensions law violations.
