Havana, Cuba, Jun 1.- Cuba is an example of solidarity and heroism before the world, said Young Caribbean students studying medicine in the School of Medicine in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

These 252 scholarship students are studying medicine and are residents in their fields in health centers in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba through cooperation accords between Cuba and their respective countries.

They express satisfaction in areas of development that strengthens the peoples of the region, in compliance with the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States that will run from June 2 st to 4th in Havana.

Julian Aristides de la Torre Medical Student from Ecuador proudly spoke of the Cuban people for sharing what they have despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US on Cuba for over half a century.

De la Torre expressed gratitude for Cuba’s solidarity in sending health professionals to Ecuador due to the recent earthquake in his country, reiterated by its ambassador in Havana.

He added that living with other nationalities allows one to learn about each other’s habits, customs and ways of life of very different cultures to create common spaces, preserve and promote unity which is the desire of the members of the Association of Caribbean States.

Regarding his medical studies, he commented on the relationship with society, in training in direct contact with patients, to become a good professional, assume human and social sense of medicine, preventing diseases and prolonging the life expectancy of the population so necessary in his homeland, he said.

Ramon Romero, head of foreign students, said that the agreements with Cuba helps offer medical coverage to the population of the 25 member nations of the Caribbean States with new solutions adapted and viable in the promotion of health for all.

The tendency is to increase cooperation to also face diseases associated with the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which is endemic to our region. (acn)
