MIAMI – June 1, 2016 – Hilton Worldwide hotels in Latin America and the Caribbean have taken part in Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month, Hilton Worldwide’s annual global career event showcasing the many opportunities available in the hospitality industry for young people. Throughout the month of May, Hilton Worldwide hotels and corporate offices around the globe hosted hundreds of events to inform those looking for employment about the exciting and diverse career opportunities in the hospitality industry. This initiative is a part of Hilton Worldwide’s Open Doors commitment, which aims to positively impact at least one million young people by 2019 and better prepare them to reach their full potential.
“We are focused on educating and inspiring youth throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, and ensuring we do all we can to develop the talent pool in the region,” said Orr Rivero, vice president, human resources, Latin America and the Caribbean, Hilton Worldwide. “Events such as Careers@Hilton Live support this commitment, by providing an opportunity for young people to learn about the hospitality industry in creative and engaging activities at hotels across the region.”
Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality events are a unique opportunity for Hilton Worldwide Team Members to inspire job seekers about careers in the hospitality industry, and to support them by providing guidance on the skills that are vital to succeed in the workplace and beyond. Participants have been joining Hilton Worldwide Team Members for events ranging from résumé clinics to networking, as well as presentations from Team Members on their career paths in hospitality.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, more than 40 managed hotels across the region participated with a variety of activities to inspire youth in their communities. Highlights from the Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month events in Latin America and the Caribbean include the following:
Hilton Bogota organized a number of events during the month of May in an effort to positively impact more than 400 youth from an array of local organizations including SENA, Instituto Mariano Moreno, Politécnico Internacional and Universidad La Sabana. Activities included a housekeeping tutorial led by the hotel’s executive housekeeper Angelica Predreros; a hands-on cooking class delivered by executive chef Nicolas Piatti; and a restaurant service session provided by food and beverage manager Wilmer Oviedo. Hilton Bogota concluded Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month with a Career Fair, where each department hosted a stand and educated students from local universities by sharing information about their area of expertise and accepting student resumes for potential roles within Hilton Bogota.
Hilton Mexico City Reforma kicked off the month by inviting students from 11 local universities to participate in a Social Media Rally. Throughout the month, the nearly 100 participants received Hilton clues via social media to respond to a series of questions regarding Hilton’s history, vision, mission and values. Students were asked to share their answers in the most creative way using social media. The hotel then celebrated the end of Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month by hosting a separate activity to commemorate the Hilton-CONALEP agreement for the Prepa-Hilton program – an initiative allowing Team Members to complete their High School degree through an online learning platform. This initiative is a joint effort between Hilton, the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and the National Institute of Technical Schools known as CONALEP.
Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre celebrated Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month with an “Open House” event inviting nearly 250 students from nine schools to visit the hotel over the course of three days. The hotel’s opening event welcomed special leaders from the destination’s tourism and hotel industry who inspired the young audience with motivational messages. Students heard from key personalities from the Ministry of Tourism; Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute; Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association; Hotel and Tourism Association; and SERVOL (Hospitality Institute). The activities continued with a fair where students visited booths set up by each of the hotel’s departments and learned the ins and outs of working in a hotel. The events concluded with a full walking tour of the property.
