Cayman Islands Lions Club Youth Choir Competition 2016 Results

Lions Children Choir Comp 1The Lions Club of Grand Cayman is pleased to announce the results of the Second Annual Youth Choir Competition. The competition took place on May 26, 2016 at the Lions Community Centre at 6:30pm and the following schools competed in their respective category:

Infant Category: Cayman Prep & High School, Prospect Primary School, Savannah Primary
School, Grace Christian Academy

Junior Category: Cayman Prep & High School, Prospect Primary School, Savannah Primary
School

Lions Children Choir Comp 4Secondary Category: Clifton Hunter High School and John Gray High School

Local judges Miss Rebekah Jefferson, Mr. Noel Wallace, and Mrs. Georgina Gatto-Deosaran adjudicated the final round. The Lions Community Centre was filled with over 1,000 people as they enjoyed the great talents of our local students. The results are as follows:

1st Place Infant Category: Savannah Primary School

1st Place Junior Category: Savannah Primary School

1st Place Secondary Category: John Gray High School

Each 1st Place” Choir received $500.00 KYD towards their school’s music department, and the “Youth Choir Competition Champion” received an additional $500.00 KYD towards their school’s music department. This event proved to be a successful joint community effort in aid of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cayman Islands and other youth programmes of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman. We would like to say “thank you” to our sponsors, Caribbean Utilities Company, Telecom Solutions (Cayman), Cayman Airways Ltd., Ministry of District Administration, Tourism and Transport, Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing, and Infrastructure, Kirk Market, Hopscotch Productions and Studios, Star 92.7 FM, Water Authority-

Cayman, Yoga Sprouts, Spark! School of Music, and Advantage Graphic Design and
Advertising.

Youth Choir Competition Committee Chairperson, Lion Janelle Tibbetts comments, “We are proud to host this annual event as we know the positive impact it has on the youth who are involved in the arts as well as the youth programmes this fundraising venture will continue to support. This event continues to grow as we saw almost 400 students come on stage giving remarkable and inspiring performances. We have been fortunate enough to be backed by a team of very motivated and dedicated persons from the local community and within our local schools and we are truly grateful to all who have contributed to this event.”
