Cubans escape Detention Centre
Two Cuban men are on the run after escaping from the Immigration Detention Centre over the weekend.
Security at the facility on Fairbanks Avenue has been stepped up since the pair fled.
A spokesman for Immigration said: “The public is advised to be on the lookout for two male Cuban detainees who escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre over the weekend.
“The men, Rafael Hidalgo Figueredo and Fernando Figueredo Corrales, were detected missing Sunday, 22 January, by guards at the facility, which is located on Fairbanks Avenue.
“Both males are in their 30s. Anyone seeing, or having information on either man should contact 911, or immigration authorities, as soon as possible. Contact Officer Scott at 526 0433, or Officer Thomas at 526 0488.
“The public is reminded that it is a criminal offence to assist such persons.
“Since the escape, enhanced security measures have been introduced at the facility, which houses Cubans who arrived by boat on the shores of the Cayman Islands in recent months.”
