CIEF Equestrian Champions
By CIEF Staff
On Saturday, June 18th, the Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation (CIEF) held its annual awards dinner at the George Town Yacht Club with over 80 persons in attendance. Besides the actual prize-giving, highlights of the dinner included a pep talk based upon works by the UK cartoonist, Norman Thellwell, and the always popular tombola which drew a large crowd of kids the entire evening.
Over the horse show season in the Cayman Islands, which runs from September to June, the CIEF holds four National Dressage Shows and four National Jumping Series Shows that lead up to the Annual Awards Dinner. Based upon the three best results that local riders achieve in these shows in their respective categories, a Champion and Reserve Champion is named. In addition to many former Champions returning to collect rosettes again, this year saw many new Champions and Reserves crowned, including Kate Flett, Kayla Mannisto, Caroline Key, Jessica Achtstatter, Grace Bostock, Marleigh Smith, Charli Milgate and Eva Hepburn.
Commenting on the event, CIEF President, Sharon Hinds, noted that “it was great to see all of our riders come together and celebrate everyone’s achievements. Equestrian Sport in the Cayman Islands has grown substantially over the past few years and from the looks of the attendance at the awards dinner, we expect to have another strong year next show season.”
The CIEF is pleased to announce the riders who were named National Champions and Reserve Champions in the following categories for Dressage and Show Jumping:
