Caribbean, Barbados Lotteries report millions in prizes and good cause contributions

Basseterre, St. Kitts – July 20, 2016: The Caribbean Lottery and sister company, The Barbados Lottery, have reported prizes to the tune of US$26.9 million for the 6-month period, January to June 2016. This figure covers winners across the 7 island territories in which the lotteries operate, through their combined 10 product offerings.
The Caribbean Lottery operates in Antigua, the United States Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis and Bermuda, while the Barbados Lottery operates in Barbados only. Both companies are subsidiaries of International Game Technology (IGT).
Super Lotto remains one of the strongest games with 97,324 winners of prizes. Instant scratch tickets rank next and pulled in more than 72,866 winners of prizes ranging from US$2 to as much as US$125,000 during the 6-month period.
The Barbados and Caribbean Lotteries have a track record of producing winners, having paid out prizes totalling US$44,927,798 in 2015.

The Barbados and Caribbean Lottery companies have jointly contributed over US$5.9 million in support of eight entities in the islands during the first half of 2016. Lottery beneficiary programmes include the Barbados Olympic Association, The Barbados Turf Club, The Barbados Cricket Association and the National Sports Council – Barbados, The Virgin Islands Lottery and its beneficiaries, The Office of Veterans Affairs, the Government Employee Retirement System (GERS), the Pharmaceutical Fund and the Education Initiative Fund in the USVI; additionally, the Caribbean Lottery directly benefits Antigua’s Consolidated Fund and Anguilla’s Consolidated Fund. These monies have been used by these entities to fund a number of good cause organizations and initiatives.
The most notable winners for the first quarter include Maria Almonte, a St. Maarten resident who won the Super Lotto jackpot of a whopping US$2.17 million in January. Nigel Worrell who hails from Barbados, was the winner of the Mega 6 jackpot, walking away with BDS$392,500 (US$196,250) in February. Another Barbadian player also struck good fortune with the Mega 6 game copping the US$190,000 jackpot in June. The biggest Instant Scratch ticket winner was Anthony Hope, who won a Platinum pay-out of US$125,000 in Barbados. In the USVI, two players each won US$100,000 with a match 4 + Powerball combination and using the game’s ‘Power Play’ feature.
US$ 22 million in prizes have been redeemed during the first six months of 2016, with US$4.9 million left to be claimed. Players are being encouraged to check their tickets to find out if they are lucky winners for the first half of 2016.
