Cayman Islands utility company welcomes summer interns
Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) is once again demonstrating its commitment to the youth of the Cayman Islands as it welcomes students to the annual Summer Internship programmme. This programme, now in its 16th year, gives students exposure to various departments and areas of practice where there may be an interest for their career development.
This summer, the students are gaining experience in the Corporate Communications, Customer Service, IT, Environment, Health & Safety, Materials Management, Engineering Services, and Electrical Maintenance departments.
19-year old Areanna Bodden, is working in the Financial Services department and said, “This internship has allowed me to expand my organizational, communication and time management skills while gaining knowledge on the career path I am currently pursuing.”
Meanwhile, 15-year old Samuel Stewart is being introduced to the processes and procedures of the Materials Management department which is responsible for ordering all of the major items the Company needs to keep the operation running smoothly. He says, “Staff here are absolutely amazing, they consider me as one of their own and make me feel so welcomed.”
Taija McRae, 16, is gaining her experience in the Corporate Communications department. “I’ve learnt the importance of being organized and making notes that can be referred to”, she said.
Anika Conolly, Human Resource Analyst, shared her thoughts on the programme. “The value of an internship is priceless. “This is an opportunity that can enhance your whole career if you take the advantage to learn all you can from dedicated professionals. We are proud to say that some of our Executive. Management and other high potential employees are products of the CUC summer internship programme.”
CUC’s Summer Internship programme is aimed at providing students with tangible training opportunities which will help to shape them for following their desired career paths.
