Cayman Islands: RCIPS announces selection of new helicopter pilot
The RCIPS is pleased to announce that a second helicopter pilot will be joining the Air Operations Unit (AOU) in mid-September of this year. Richard Morcombe, currently a pilot with the UK National Police Air Service, will bring considerable operational experience to the AOU. In 2003, before his current role, he completed twenty-six years of service with the UK Army, fourteen of which he served as a pilot in the UK Army Air Corps, flying Gazelle and Lynx helicopters in combat roles.
After the Army he joined the National Police Air Service and worked from its East Midlands base, conducting pilot policing duties for 13 years. Altogether he holds 7,000 hours of operational flight experience, including numerous daytime and nighttime overwater operations around the world.
Mr. Morcombe actually flew the Cayman Islands Police Helicopter in the UK for four years before it was purchased by the Cayman Islands Government in 2007, and has previously flown two relief duty periods in the Cayman Islands in 2010 and 2011.
The RCIPS looks forward to welcoming Mr. Morcombe to its ranks next month.
