Council of Arab Relations with Latin America and the Caribbean to Host Event at COP22
Washington, D.C – The Council of Arab Relations with Latin America and the Caribbean (CARLAC), in collaboration with the OCP Policy Center, the Getulio Vargas Foundation and the University of Maryland, has organized an event regarding “Low Carbon Renewable Energy: Lessons from MENA (north Africa and Middle-East countries) and Latin America Regions.”
This event will take place during the twenty-second session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) in Marrakech, Morocco from November 7 to 18.
The session will unite all levels of deployment experts, and non-governmental organization partners, and government officials, including high level government representatives of the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean, according to CEO of CARLAC Ambassador Hasan Abdelraham.
CARLAC is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization created to strengthen relations between the Arab World and Latin America and the Caribbean. Their mission is to develop communication on a range of topics, including trade, commerce, investment, social involvement, education and cultural exchange.
Officials and non-governmental organization partners alike will convene to discuss renewable energy options in pursuit of the Paris Agreement, potential developmental pathways between countries in Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa regions, international collaboration for sustainable support, and more.
Expected speakers at the event include Director at the Center for Global Sustainability at the University of Maryland Dr. Nathan Hultman, Managing Director of the OCP Policy Center Dr. Karim El Aynaoui, Morocco’s Minister of Environment Dr. Hakia el Haite, Qatar’s Minister of Municipality and Environment, Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Metab Al-Rumaihi, Representative of Fundacion Getulio Vargas in Brazil Eduardo Braga, Minister of Environment & Sustainable Development of Columbia Luz Helena Sarmiento Villamizar, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at Ministry of Energy in Mexico Erika Streu, and Executive Secretary of REN21 Christine Lin.
