Drugs recovered from submerged vessel off North West Point, Cayman Islands
From RCIPS
Officers recovered a large quantity of ganja, with a wet weight of 1,044 lbs., which may have an approximate value in Cayman of CI $365,400, from the submerged vessel found drifting off North West Point on 26 February. Attached are photos of some of the large packages, which were recovered in rice bags.
“The interdiction of drugs continues to be a priority for the RCIPS, because of the significant health and public safety risk such large amounts of drugs pose for a small jurisdiction,” said Derek Byrne, Commissioner of Police. “Whether these drugs were intended for these islands or not, the harm they can cause here is real. We are working closely with our colleagues at Customs on this issue.”
