ILO and the Government of Brazil on South-South Cooperation Mission to Guyana and Suriname

Port of Spain (ILO News) – Having successfully completed activities in Saint Lucia and the Bahamas in March 2017, the International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the Government of Brazil, will embark on a second round of technical assistance activities to the benefit of Guyana on 11-12 May 2017, and Suriname on 15-16 May 2017. The goal is to share the experiences and good practices of the Brazilian Apprentice Progamme (BAP) with national constituents.

The BAP has proven instrumental to reduce child labour and improve working conditions for young apprentices. In addition to hosting a general technical seminar, the team will also engage in direct discussions with senior Government officials, education sector stakeholders, and with high-level representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations and other civil society groups, to examine opportunities for national adaptation of specific good practices from Brazil.

The visiting delegation will comprise Ms Denise Natalina Brambilla Gonzales and Ms. Tais Arruti Lyrio Lisboa, Specialists from the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MTE) Brazil; Mr Diego Rei, Employment and Labour Market Specialist/Child Labour Focal Point and Ms Resel Melville, National Project Coordinator, both from the ILO DWT and Office for the Caribbean; and Mr Erik Ferraz- Administrative Officer, ILO Brazil.
