The 2nd Annual Dog Show of One Dog At a Time, held on Saturday 14th April at the Seven Fathoms Rum Distillery on Bronze Road, raised over $1000 to assist with the rehoming of dogs and puppies freed from the Pound.

The afternoon was opened by Tom Mayman representing Elite Marble and Granite, who generously provided all the fencing, chairs and a marquee for the event. With a poignant reminder by the compere, Joey Avery,  that the Dog Show was in memory of Cathy Richardson, who first introduced the Cayman Dog Show nearly 25 years ago, and sadly lost her battle with cancer in 2015, the proceedings began with great enthusiasm! A wide variety of gorgeous dogs, dog owners and their families.

On one of the hottest days so far, with little breeze, dogs and owners alike were keen to stay cool! Cold tubs of water were placed around the show and many dogs took advantage of the buckets by leaping and splashing in them!

Dogs booked themselves in to the beauty salon for a shampoo and dry as well as nail trimmings and care advice given by Nurse Jess from Cayman Animal Hospital.

Many of the owners were persuaded by their pets to visit the Distillery Shop and cool down in the AC too! Hamish Hamilton was on hand to take professional photographs of the beautiful dogs posing for a small donation.

Stalls selling a variety of merchandise, including ODAAT T-shirts, wrist bands and bumper stickers were busy and a BBQ and cold refreshments were available throughout the afternoon. The crowd was buzzing with excitement for the contests to begin!

Heidi Suarez Rivera demonstrated with her agility trained dog, Hendricks, on a very tricky course before owners could try their hand at guiding their dogs through tunnels, over jumps and through poles! One child exclaimed “I wish I could do the agility course; though I don’t think I’d do it as quickly as my dog! “

After the timed agility course competition, in which the winner was Trevor owned by Simon Ecclefield, there was a short (paws) pause, and then the dog show began!

Pooches donned their best waggiest tail, fancy dress costume and smile to compete in the various events, judged by Dr. Denise Osterloh, Teresa Strad, Simon and Regina Ecclefield. Competition was fierce and it was a very hard decision to choose the winners!
