UPDATE From RCIPS:

The man who was arrested on Attempted Murder charges was charged with Assault Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). William Powery (who is 24 years old at his next birthday) appeared in court on Wednesday (31) afternoon, where he was remanded in custody.

The victim of the assault remains in hospital, undergoing treatment. He is described as stable and alert.

At 3:51 PM on Saturday 27^th May 2017 the police responded to a report of a serious assault at a premises on Seaside Way during which a 51 year old man received a serious injury to the side of his head, resulting in fractures. The man was transported to the GT Hospital by Ambulance and is undergoing treatment. It appears that a baseball bat was used to strike the victim, which resulted in the injury.

The matter is being treated as an Attempted Murder and is being investigated by the CID.
