Cayman Island Triple C School – Class of 2017 Graduation

A weekend of celebration culminated in the Commencement Exercise for the thirty-four seniors graduating from Triple C School. The celebration activities started with a Baccalaureate Service on Sunday night, June 4th with the seniors being inducted into the Alumni Association. This year, there were several graduates whose parents are also Triple C School alumni, so the parents were invited to pin their own child as part of the induction process. The high point of their celebration was receiving their diplomas and certificates at the Commencement Exercises on Monday, June 5th, from Suahil Householder (Scott), Class of 1993.

At the Baccalaureate Service, Edlyn Ruiz, Class of 2007 was the keynote speaker. As she spoke to the class of 2017, Miss Ruiz shared four lessons that she has learned since her own high school graduation and invited the seniors to please take note of these life lessons. First, she encouraged the seniors to ask questions to seek understanding. Second, never stop learning. Third, speak the truth and lastly, make your journey your own.

For the Commencement Service, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. James Watler, welcomed all the family members, friends, and well-wishers of the graduates at the Family Life Center. As part of the school’s tradition, the service began as robed faculty, with candles symbolically lighting the way, formed a receiving line.

Jacie Mascarenhas, graduating with a 4.24 average, delivered a very upbeat and entertaining Valedictory address. In her speech she emphasized that sitting within her class are future actors, entrepreneurs, and leaders, and she encouraged her class that no matter what “reach out and grab your opportunity, stay strong till you reach your finish line!” Jacie also took the opportunity to acknowledge the teachers, friends, and family members who have helped her reach where she is now but most importantly she gives all the glory to God for sustaining her through it all, especially with recent challenges. Her fellow classmate and Salutatorian, Frank Noguera Villarroel, also gave a very light-hearted and funny speech. Frank encouraged his classmates to not let fear influence the choices that they make for the future.

Jacie Mascarenhas was the subject awards recipient for English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Christian Education. Jacie also received the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Leader award, the Kiwanis Grant and the Ernst & Young award for outstanding academic achievement. Lilav Lee received the subject award for Business and was also the recipient of the CICSA Credit Union Scholarship award for Business presented by the CEO, Corinne Glasgow. Frank Noguera Villarroel received the subject award for Science. Subject awards are given in 6 disciplines to those students who have the highest average over a 4 year period.

Many other awards were presented throughout the evening. Pastor Alson Ebanks of the Church of God Chapel – George Town presented the Creative Christian Character Award to David Brown, Jada Connor, Jacie Mascarenhas and Patricia Thompson.

This award is given to students who have accepted the Lord as their personal Savior and who are living out their witness for the Lord both in and out of school. David Brown was the recipient of the Myles Music Achievement Award. Patrisia Thompson received the STEM award presented by Mr. Chris Duggan, Dart Enterprise. Jonathan Key received the Triple C Alumni Scholarship for Excellence in Sports.

Keilah Quincoces was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Award, an award that recognizes scholarship, leadership, citizenship, loyalty, and peer and teacher rapport, presented by Mrs. Lyneth Monteith, the Director of the Department of Education Services

Five students were recipients of the Save Our Youth awards. Receiving the SOY Community Service Awards were Jonathan Key and Grace Ruby. Isaiah Ebanks, Nike Rivers, Zion Coe and Patrisia Thompson were recipients of the SOY Achievement Award. The High School Visual Arts Achievement Award, sponsored by The National Gallery, was presented Grace Ruby. The Triple C School PTA Scholarship Award for extra-curricular excellence went to Alyssa Gilbert and Alaye McLaughlin.
Suahil Housholder (Scott), Class of 1993 gave the Commencement address.

As she spoke to the graduates Mrs. Housholder took time to highlight her own graduating class individual success, many who have gone to complete their desire degrees and who are now in the world making their mark either as business owners or in Cayman working to make a difference in our own community. She spoke about the challenges that she too faced when in high school but through strong guidance and wisdom from teachers and family she can now speak to them and let them know that they can do it too!

Triple C School is very proud of the Class of 2017 and all that they have accomplished during their individual time at Triple C. Triple C School has a long and distinguished history of academic excellence in the Cayman Islands. Founded in 1941 as a mission of the Church of God Chapel, the school has grown and changed with the times as Cayman has moved from the island that time forgot to one of the world’s major financial centers. The central goal, as expressed in the Mission Statement remains: “To provide an internationally competitive education in a Christ-centered environment.” Nothing else will do as we prepare citizens for tomorrow and eternity.
