Suspected fraudulent solicitations on Cayman Islands EcayTrade for babysitters in the U.S.
Periodically the RCIPS receives information about suspect ads on EcayTrade that advertise jobs as caregivers, nurses, and most recently, babysitters. When interested parties respond to the ad, they are told that the job is based with a family in the United States and that their passport details are required. During the course of subsequent emails and messages, further personal details are requested and supplied, ostensibly for immigration purposes.
The FCU has received one report of late about this activity. In this report the applicant applied for a babysitter job, and became suspicious during the course of these exchanges when the party she was communicating was clearly not American. This report fits the profile of the kinds of solicitations designed to obtain personal information for the purposes of identity theft, or, more often, to extract money for administrative fees or permits from applicants at some stage.
The FCU has contacted EcayTrade to remove these ads, and detectives would like to warn the public against sharing personal details online or providing funds for fees with unknown parties.
Anyone with questions about such advertisements should contact the FCU at 949-8797.
