The Truman Bodden Law School has recently welcomed Scott Atkins and Michael Bromby as newly appointed Lecturers in Law.

Mr Atkins will lecture on Contract, Commercial and Trusts Law on the Law School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Scott graduated from the University of Birmingham (UK) with a First Class Honours degree in Law. He later qualified as a solicitor, specialising in property law. He left private practice to pursue a career in academia, most recently becoming Head of Law at the University of Derby (UK).

Scott has written a textbook on Equity and Trusts which is now in its 2^nd edition. He has also contributed several articles for an on-line legal encyclopedia. He remains a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Law, Jersey where he is also a member of the Academic Board.

Mr Bromby will lecture on Evidence and Employment law on the undergraduate programme. His research interests include forensic evidence identification, eyewitness evidence and teaching methods.

Michael studied law at the University of Edinburgh and joins us from Glasgow Caledonian University (UK) as a Reader in Law. He had previously worked in the Higher Education Academy, the UK body in charge of advising law schools on their learning and teaching strategy. He was also a summary criminal court judge in Scotland and sat on a variety of Law Society of Scotland committees.

Externally, Michael is involved with the Commonwealth Legal Education Association as their conference coordinator and Caribbean Representative.

Scott and Michael are both looking forward to settling into life on Grand Cayman.

“Scott and Michael bring first class teaching and research skills to the Law School and they join us at a particularly exciting time in the evolution of the school.

“The last six months witnessed the launch of two new postgraduate programmes, offered as awards of the University of Liverpool: the Master of Laws in International Finance and the postgraduate Diploma in International Finance.  In the late summer, a new postgraduate affiliation with Oxford Brookes University was also agreed, leading to the Oxford Brookes Diploma in Legal Practice, to be awarded to successful Professional Practice Course candidates.  It is expected that Scott and Michael will contribute to the teaching of these new programmes.”
