Lamont Paris’ Chattanooga Mocs look to continue momentum from Thursday night’s home opening win.

CHATTANOOGA—The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team is in the midst of a four-game home stretch hosting the mainland bracket of the Cayman Islands Classic. Alabama State, Jacksonville State and Savannah State join the Mocs in McKenzie Arena Monday and Tuesday night.

It tips off at 5 p.m., Monday with the Gamecocks and Tigers matching up. ASU and Chattanooga meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday’s games feature the Hornets at 5 p.m., and UTC at 7:30 p.m., matched up against JSU or SSU based on winners and losers from the Monday games.

The Mocs are coming off a 94-46 win over Hiwassee in Thursday’s season opener. Makinde London led the squad with his first 20-point effort. Read all about it right here.

Alabama State comes to Gig City 0-4 with a tough road, literally to start the season. The Hornets are in the middle of a six-game, 10-day road trip that exceeds 6,500 total miles. They lost Friday night at Oregon.

Savannah State is 1-3 after a Friday night loss at Louisiana. It was a 76-61 loser to ETSU earlier this season. Jacksonville State is 2-1 after a loss last Wednesday at Buffalo which followed an impressive 94-61 win at Richmond.

3 NOTES TO KNOW

• 103-51 (.669) in “in-season” tournaments. Won 36 titles including six of the last nine in such events.
• The 3.1 assist-to-turnover ratio (22/7) was the best in a game since 3.7 on Feb. 1, 2016 against The Citadel with 22 assists against just six miscues in the 125-85 victory.
• Three-point shooting was a key factor in the win over Hiwassee. The Tigers packed in a zone and after a 1-7 start from beyond the arc. The Mocs went 13-20, 65.0 percent, the rest of the way opening the paint where London was dominant. Five different UTC shooters made multiple triples led by Duane Moss’ three (Dylan Brewster 2, Rodney Chatman 2, Makinde London 2 & Nat Dixon 2). The Mocs are shooting 38.9 percent (28-72) from 3pt range for the season making 9.3 per contest.
