Barbados secures several wins at this years Caribbean Tourism Awards

From ICTM

In an exclusive media awards ceremony held recently by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) at Fox@Excel, Barbados came out on top winning several awards on the night. Best National Newspaper Feature award was received by Ally Farrell for her remarkable piece in The Sun titled ‘Croon with A View’, which beautifully documented her first ever choir experience in Barbados, highlighting just one of Barbados’ unique activities that are available on the island.

Cheryl Carter, UK Director of BTMI was delighted with the results commenting ‘I congratulate the finalists on their achievements and their willingness to showcase the natural beauty and resources of Barbados. One of our main objectives this year has been to represent the island in ways that go beyond the breathtaking aesthetics of our coastline. We have seen a wonderful range of creative stories that represent the multi-faceted nature of Barbadian living, referencing the superb gastronomy, adventure and culture on the island.’

Now in its 11th year, the prestigious annual event held was attended by a range of tourism boards, international travel organisations, top-tier journalists and influencers. Barbados also shone through in several other categories receiving 2nd place for Best Social Media Campaign for India Hobson’s #HaarkoninBarbados showcasing Barbados’ wonderful horticulture. Tim Jibson was awarded 3rd place for ‘Adventures in Radio – Live from Barbados’ in the Best Broadcast Feature category featured on Classic Hits 4FM Dublin, Metro Radio North East and Thames Radio. Roger Sharpe’s fascinating review of surfing life in Barbados titled ‘The Cutter Club’ was given 3rd place for Best Piece of Photo Journalism in Carve Magazine. Last but by no means least, Claire Bennie was awarded 3rd place for Best Consumer Feature for her colourful piece on rum in Barbados, aptly named ‘The Rum Diaries’ featured in Thomas Cook Travel Magazine.

Nominations are put before a select panel of judges who are key figures in publishing, tourism and leisure fields. The industry front-runners are then decided based on their representations of the Caribbean. The awards ceremony aimed to showcase well written features that capture real stories about the Caribbean through the mediums of photography, writing, digital media, broadcast media, publishing and trade.
