Cayman Airways jet en route to New York returns back to Cayman
Last Sunday (26), a Cayman Airways Boeing 737-300 en route to New York, had to return to Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport and make an Emergency Landing.
The aircraft left Grand Cayman at 7:40pm and landed safely back at 8:18pm after burning fuel to reduce its weight.
The plane, with 121 persons aboard, was still climbing when the crew discovered the pressurization system was not working correctly and the decision was taken to return home.
The landing was safe with no incident.
The aircraft was flying at a safe operating altitude for unpressurized flights when the discovery was made said Cayman Airways CEO Fabian Whorms, “Whilst this situation did not constitute a full emergency, in an abundance of caution, the captain requested that the airport’s emergency services be on standby for the landing.
“As always, we at Cayman Airways place safety as our highest priority and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our passengers affected by this return last night [Sun].”
The passengers were delayed until they left on a different aircraft to NewYork at 10pm.
