Employees from the Cayman office of law firm, Mourant Ozannes, once again contributed to their community during their annual away day. Teams of people from the firm went out into the community to help local organisations including Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE), the Cayman Islands Red Cross, Francis Bodden Children’s Home, and the Cayman Islands Humane Society.

More than 70 people from the firm swapped their desks to work with local charities taking part in a range of activities including entering over 1000 books in to the John A Cumber primary school library database which had kindly been donated by LIFE.  Mourant Ozannes also donated over $200 worth of new and used books to the deserving charity. Other volunteers spent their time cleaning the beaches of Cayman, washing and exercising dogs, carrying out yard-work and maintenance and folding and sorting donations for the Red Cross Thrift Shop.

The idea is that we spend some time away from our desks, step out into the community and have some fun whilst giving back.”

The potential for economic and social gain from improvements in literacy are dramatic. There is a critical relationship between access to leveled books and overall student achievement and your assistance provides a supportive literacy environment in the classroom.
