Dominican Republic welcomes the “Regional summit for exchanging innovative experiences and lessons learned on disaster risk reduction”
This summit edition, based on the “Exchange of Lessons Learned after the impact of Hurricanes Irma and María”, will help to identify and share experiences, good practices and relevant challenges at regional, national and local levels. With this, the Dominican State reinforces its commitment on promoting measures to strengthen disaster reduction management, reduce the impact of natural events and increase resilience.
The Dominican Republic as managing partner of the Natural Disaster Risk Management Programme for the Caribbean Region, funded by the European Union to support disaster risk and climate change reduction, welcomes this event aiming to promote alliances and strategies to create political commitment and developing necessary actions to work on the reduction of the impact of natural and man-made disasters. By sharing experiences and good practices in disaster risk reduction, participants will strengthen their systems, governance capacity and promote joint actions and synergies in the areas of interest.
The event will gather representatives from national and regional government institutions, members of the NDRM Programmeand representatives from Dominican Republic, among international organizations, local actors, private sector, academies, specialists, NGO’s, decision makers, policymakers and specialists in risk management and climate change in the Caribbean.
Master lectures, panels approaching different subjects of interest related to the innovative practices and experiences on disaster risk management and reduction, as well as discussions in work groups and plenary sessions will be developed during this two-day meeting.
The event aims to understand disaster risks, climate change adaptation, risk management tools, standardization and systematization, strengthen disaster risk governance, issues related to investment for resilience and how to increase disaster preparedness to lead an effective response in the contexts of recovery.
