DG’s 5K Challenge Kicks Off on Cayman Brac

It was a double-win for the Health Services Authority (HSA) at the 2018 DG’s 5K Challenge on Cayman Brac yesterday (Sunday, 15 April).

Lizzette Yearwood, HSA’s CEO, took the title of overall fastest female for the third year running, while HSA anaesthetic technician Gregley Gayle scooped the trophy for overall fastest male.

Nearly 120 people registered for the walk/run with almost 80 taking part on the day.

“The 2018 DG’s 5K Challenge got off to a great start on the Brac on Sunday,” said Deputy Governor Franz Manderson. “We had a really good turn-out and everybody enjoyed themselves. This is our way of giving back to the community.

“We are now looking forward to the DG’s 5K on Little Cayman and Grand Cayman over the next couple of weekends. Everybody is welcome to join in. whether you are a slow walker or a fast runner.”

Cash raised on Cayman Brac will this year go towards the provision of meals at the Kirkconnell Community Care Centre.

The DG’s 5K Challenge is being held on Little Cayman on Sunday, 22 April and Grand Cayman on Sunday, 29 April.
Money raised in Little Cayman is for a “grow box” at that island’s school, while the beneficiaries on Grand Cayman will be Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels, Feed Our Future, and the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman’s Buy a Kid Breakfast programme.
Registration is on www.caymanactive.com/dg5k. Fees are $25 for ages 18 and older and just $10 for ages 17 and younger.
