News Americas, TORONTO, Canada, Fri. April 27, 2018: The Canadian government this week updated its warning on a Caribbean island territory that is still recovering from Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

As the U.S. Virgin Islands tries to bounce back and its tourism agency continues to spread the message that it is rebounding, the Canadian government on Wednesday updated its travel warning to nationals there.

The latest warning as of April 25th, urges Canadians to “exercise a high degree of caution” if travelling to the U.S.V.I. The new warning cautions travelers that while recovery efforts are underway, and the situation has significantly improved on St. Croix and St. Thomas, there are still some disruptions to essential services like transportation, power distribution, water and food supply, telecommunications networks, emergency assistance and medical care.

“Be particularly cautious if travelling to the affected areas,” the statement added, while noting that a precautionary boil water advisory is in effect for the islands.

The warning comes as U.S. Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty earlier this month, told audiences across the U.S. mainland that the Territory is open for business.

“Power has been restored across the Territory, our beaches and attractions have reopened, cruise lines and airlines have returned and a wide variety of accommodations are available even as our rebuilding and resiliency work continues,” she reported, affirming that the “USVI is Still Nice.”
