Cayman Islands Circle of Love Annual Children’s Month Breakfast

GRAND CAYMAN (GIS) – Around 260 school students and 100 parents and teachers enjoyed a buffet breakfast, fellowship and live entertainment at the Circle of Love Women’s Ministry children’s breakfast on Saturday, 12 May 2018.

The seventh annual Child Month Breakfast was held in the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort’s ballroom. Government and civil service attendees included Ministry of Community Affairs Councillor Austin Harris, Chief Officer Teresa Echenique, Deputy Chief Officer Andre Ebanks and several Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) staff.

DCFS Director Felicia Robinson gave brief remarks. She welcomed attendees and asked adults to affirm children so as to positively impact their lives. Mrs. Robinson also thanked the Circle of Love Women’s Ministry for organising and hosting the ever-popular event.

This year’s junior speaker was 14-year-old Zolla Jones from Cayman Prep & High School. The Child Month 2018 Award recipient impressed onlookers with her self-penned motivational speech. In taking up the event’s theme, she implored her peers to discover their passions, ask more of themselves than others do and to find mentors to nurture their talents.

The packed programme featured lively performances from many school choirs, school and church dance troupes, as well as several instrumental performances.
Jordan McLean was called on to testify to the power of prayer in his life and moved the audience with his rendition of “My Redeemer Lives.”

Charmaine Miller of the Family Resource Center (FRC) gave a powerful demonstration on the strong and lasting effects of bullying. She shared with the audience information on the FRC’s Stood Up campaign, which carries a unequivocal anti-bullying message and encouraged young attendees to stand up to bullying where ever they saw it by telling an adult.

Founder of the Circle of Love Women’s Ministry, Mrs. Julie Hunter gave out many spot prizes throughout the event which also kept the audience entertained between performances. She was pleased with the record attendance and the enthusiasm of the child entertainers, the audience, and that 75 children had taken part in the essay competition.

“The reason why our Ministry organises and hosts the annual Child Month Breakfast is because we want to affirm children and the sacred place they have in our community,” she added. “Children have so much potential. Hopefully events such as this can help inspire them to reach for and to realise their goals.”

Winners of the event’s essay competition, titled: “One Life Challenge I Have Overcome and How I Overcame It,” were First Place: (7- 8 yrs old) Tyria Chantilope (Truth For Youth School), (9-10 yrs old) Daniel Salman (Prospect Primary School), (11-12 yrs old) Whitney Jackson (Wesleyan Christian Academy). Second Place: (7-8 yrs old) Kristen Aguero (Truth For Youth School), (9-10 yrs old) Michael Grizzel (George Town Primary School) and Lee Ebanks (Edna Moyle Primary School), (11-12 yrs old) MaKayla O’Connor (Bodden Town Primary School). Third Place: (7- 8 yrs old) Cordese Robinson (Red Bay Primary School) and Triston Walton (George Town Primary School), (9 -10 yrs old) Chantia Willis (George Town Primary School) and (10 -11 yrs old) Naila Azwa Aini (Truth For Youth School).
