Ideas sought for creating successful Cayman Islands schools
The Office of Education Standards (OES) is actively seeking input from the general public on the new inspection framework, “Successful Schools and Achieving Students”, by holding district meetings and conducting social media polls via the Cayman Islands Government Facebook page.
“The idea is to provide educators, parents and community members with the standards, goals and expectations prior to an inspection, so that all stakeholders understand and agree upon what ‘Excellent’ looks like”, said Office of Education Standards Chief Inspector, Peter Carpenter.
The new draft framework was developed by Mr. Peter Carpenter and his team by updating existing materials and including input from members of the Educational Council, Principals, and school staff. Now the OES is seeking feedback from parents and members of the public before finalising the document.
The framework, which applies to private as well as public schools, organises the goals of the education system into six areas.
• Student achievement;
• Student personal and social development;
• Effective teaching;
• Curriculum quality;
• Safety and support of students;
• School leadership.
The district meetings start on Wednesday, 23 May in Cayman Brac. Most are scheduled to begin at 6 pm with the exception of the Bodden Town meeting which starts at 6:30 pm.
