Australian fund of hedge funds expands to New York with new Cayman fund
By Matthias Knab, From Opalesque:
Leading Australian based fund of hedge fund company, NWQ Capital Management, announced the launch of the Northwest Quadrant Fiduciary Fund (Fund), a Cayman Master/Feeder Structure. The Fund will allow non-Australian investors access to the same investment process and management team of the highly successful NWQ Fiduciary Fund, up until now, only available to Australian investors. The long running and highly successful NWQ Fiduciary Fund continues to be globally ranked for performance and has been embraced by Australian Family Offices, Foundations and Endowments and other Institutional clients.
NWQ is a leading Australian funds management firm specialising in the identification, research and allocation to Australia’s leading equity hedge funds. NWQ’s investment team is highly qualified and experienced in capital markets and is well known within Australia’s hedge fund community for the breadth and depth of their manager research. The Investment Committee includes former Reserve Bank of Australia Governor, Glenn Stevens AC, former Chief Investment Officer of one of Australia’s leading superannuation funds, Sharon Hicks, former Head of FX Proprietary Risk at Deutsche Bank, Stephen Kennedy, and former Chief Operating Officer of Regal Funds Management, Stephen Baldwin.
NWQ’s Managing Partner, Jonathan Horton, says, ‘Our investors seek low volatility, market neutral returns that can deliver in all market environments and we are particularly pleased to have consistently delivered this to our clients.’
Recent international enquiry has lead NWQ to establish a New York City based office, led by Managing Director, Robert Kalish. ‘As market dynamics shift, due to a changing interest rate and geopolitical environment, investment solutions of this type sit well with all our fiduciary investors wanting stable, consistent returns, irrespective of market direction,’ says Kalish.
Kalish goes on to say, ‘Australia is one of the world’s largest pension markets but has a relatively small hedge fund community who disproportionally benefit from the inefficiencies that can be observed in the Australian equity market. For those investors considering allocating to Australian hedge funds, the NorthWest Quadrant Fiduciary Fund becomes an interesting diversifying solution.’
Horton says, ‘we are pleased to be well supported in the launch of our international fund from leading institutional investors, the same type of investors we typically serve in Australia.’ End NWQ Capital Management is an Australian investment manager led by experienced institutional professionals. NWQ is founded on a core philosophy of absolute return investing which seeks to deliver investors positive returns in both rising and falling markets. NWQ oversees the NWQ Fiduciary Fund – which invests across a portfolio of carefully-selected Australian equity hedge funds – as well as separately managed accounts.
