Cayman Islands Customs K9 Retiree Seeks New Home

CI Customs canine Blaze has been retired from active service.

The contraband sniffer dog has been on active duty since 2014.

Blaze, a Beagle mix, arrived from the Sheriff’s Office in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA.

Blaze, an eager, silky coated, Beagle-mix is the latest Customs K-9 “officer” to be retired. He follows on the heels of Black Lab, Buster who was a veteran of nearly 10 years in active service with the Customs K-9 unit and who was retired earlier this year.

“We are now looking for a new home for Blaze, who has served the Cayman Islands people and the Government faithfully and always eagerly for a number of years now,” comments Deputy Collector (Border Protection), Mr. Jeff Jackson. “Blaze certainly deserves rest, relaxation and happy family time going forward,” Mr. Jackson emphasised.

Customs K-9 Unit’s Senior Customs Officer, Mr. Malachi Powery outlined that Blaze who was trained and in service with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona, USA, arrived in 2014 and was put into service in the Cayman Islands almost immediately.

“We are looking for a good, loving family to provide Blaze a happy home for the rest of his days,” Mr. Powery said. “Blaze will do well as a single dog in a family that is active and can provide walks and pursue other activities with him.”

“We are particular and want to ensure that Blaze goes to a suitable family who will treat him very well,” Mr. Powery added. “He has been a loved member of our K-9 team.”
