Rugby: Cayman Islands down Bermuda in a thriller
The Cayman Islands downed Bermuda in a thriller, winning 20-19 on Saturday. Played at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town the Caymans needed their home advantage to avoid an upset loss.
The match was the first of 2018 for the Cayman Islands. Bermuda were playing their third match but were looking for their opening victory. Bermuda’s losses against the USA South Panthers and Trinidad & Tobago had them facing relegation from the RAN Championship to the RAN Cup.
But with news this past week noting that Trinidad & Tobago had officially withdrawn from the remainder of the RAN Championship Bermuda now appear safe. Results of the aftermath of Trinidad & Tobago’s decision to withdraw remain unconfirmed.
The Caymans were due to play against Trinidad & Tobago on June 23 but that has now been scrapped. In 2017 a strong campaign saw the Caymans downing 28-15 Bermuda away and also toppling Mexico 39-17.
