RCIPS traffic enforcement operations continued throughout the month of May with numerous tickets being given for speeding, illegal tint, and other offenses.

In total, officers issued 283 speeding tickets for the month. They also issued 171 tickets for tint and 96 tickets for using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle.

There were also 38 citations given for dangerous driving, whether due to excessive speed or the manner in which a vehicle was being driven.

In addition to these offenses, 36 arrests were made for DUI over the course of the month of May, while 10 DUI arrests have been made since 1 June.

In one case, shortly before 1:30AM on 5 June, officers on patrol on Pedro Castle Road observed a silver Nissan driving with a defective tail light. Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, determining that the vehicle had an expired coupon, no insurance and also observed a crack in the windscreen. The driver could not provide his license and registration. While speaking to the driver the officers detected the scent of alcohol on his breath and a roadside breath test was conducted, with a result of 0.127%. The man, age 28 of Bodden Town, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and using a vehicle with expired registration. The man, who was also wanted in relation to another matter, was further arrested on suspicion of theft. He is currently on bail.

“We continue to see far too many people travelling at excessive speeds on our roads, which makes a tragedy that much more likely,” said Inspector Ian Yearwood.
