Cayman Islands police helicopter executes medevac from passing supertanker, 11 June

From RCIPS

Shortly before 3PM, Monday, 11 June, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre received a call from a member of the public on the Brac for assistance to the crew of a supertanker, Explorer Spirit. A 43-year-old male crew member had fallen on board the ship, resulting in a fractured leg and head injuries that required urgent medical assistance.

The Police Helicopter crew deployed, with an EMT paramedic, and determined that the ship was about 40 miles off the west coast of Grand Cayman en route to Aruba. The helicopter located the ship and landed on its deck when it was about 15 miles off the coast of Grand Cayman.

The patient was stabilized on the ship, then airlifted to Owen Roberts International Airport for transfer to George Town Hospital for further treatment. The man, from India, was then transferred to Health City, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
