Bermudians arrested in United Kingdom on Terror Charges

LONDON, United Kingdom, Tuesday June 19, 2018 – Two Bermudian men have been arrested in the United Kingdom on terrorism related charges.
Bermuda police confirmed today that the men – Hisham Waheed Muhammad, 24, and Faisal Ibn al Hajj Muhammad Abu Ahmad, 23 –, who have been living in the UK for a while, are scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 29.
“The Bermuda Police Service is liaising with UK authorities regarding this matter and conducting local inquiries. However, to date no information has come to light that raises similar concerns locally,” the police statement said.
The duo was arrested after UK authorities were alerted to a Bury, Greater Manchester residence where they found suspicious materials.
According to British media, the police had been called in by a landlord who evicted two tenants for non-payment of rent. He found a large bucket with plastic boxes taped to the sides, electrical tools and images of guns.
And when police went to the property earlier this month, according to the Sun newspaper, they also discovered axes, knives, “bear-claw” ninja weapons, balaclavas, combat gear, camouflage makeup and ISIS propaganda on a Samsung tablet.
The Greater Manchester Police said Muhammad has been charged with engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism, while Ahmad was charged with failing to notify authorities of information relating to the preparation of an act of terrorism.
