The UK is bask in a glorious heatwave that is the longest spell ofhot weather in decades, transforming the beaches of Cornwall into scenes that resemble the Caribbean.

However parts of the south coast could see “a few heavy showers bubbling up” on Monday afternoon with the chance of “torrential downpours”, forecasters warned.

But throughout last week there were recorded temperatures of higher than 30C every day and, over the weekend, families enjoyed idyllic scenes in Kynance Cove, Cornwall.

Photos taken on Friday show swimmers frolicking in waters that were transformed into a stunning turquoise blue.

The white-sanded cove looked like the perfect holiday destination for visitors making the most of the scorching weather.

The hot weather looks here to stay for most Brits. Forecasters predicted sunshine and temperatures in the mid-20Cs for much of this week, with a chance temperatures may soar even higher next week.

The Met Office issued its first weather warning for thunderstorms on Sunday after heavy downpours hit parts of southern England, but no warnings were in place on Monday.

For the rest of the week, the Met Office said: “High pressure is largely in charge, we’ll see a lot more in the way of dry weather.

Strong sunshine does mean temperatures will regularly get into the mid-to-high 20s for quite a few spots across the UK.

“This does mean though there is a risk of thundery showers still, they’ll be very hit-and-miss I think most places this week will stay largely dry.”
