Caribbean pharmacists converge on Grand Cayman for the 38th Annual Regional Pharmacy Conference
Grand Cayman will host a delegation of over 120 international pharmacists from 14-19 August, 2018 at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. The Cayman Islands was successful in its bid to host this year’s 38th Annual Caribbean Association of Pharmacists (CAP) Conference under the theme “Shaping the Future of Pharmacy: Revealing Opportunities and Unlocking Potential”. This conference will see delegates from the Caribbean, USA, Canada and UK meeting to discuss relevant healthcare topics, network and collaborate to enhance patient outcomes and raise the standard of regional healthcare services.
This conference will commence with a formal opening ceremony on Wednesday, 15 August 2018. The week’s events will include a showcase of Caymanian culture, a formal gala night as well as a public forum where pharmacists will engage with and offer service to the public on relevant pharmacy topics of concern.
“Collaborating with the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists to host this year’s conference is a great opportunity for the Cayman pharmacists to showcase the profession of pharmacy in the Cayman Islands. This conference will see pharmacists from the Caribbean and other territories sharing a wealth of knowledge on new treatment guidelines and updates on the expanding roles of pharmacists. Such updates will have a profound impact on the quality of healthcare that our pharmacists provide,” said Ms. Ketesha Salmon, President of the Cayman Pharmacists’ Association (CPA).
She further noted, “This conference is not merely an educational conference but we hope to showcase ‘Caymankind’ and increase the awareness of the history and culture of the Cayman Islands.
Ms. Samantha Conolly, 2nd Vice President of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacy and Deputy Conference Chair for CPA stated, “I am very pleased to have the CAP conference return to Cayman after over 10 years. It is an opportunity for us to showcase our outstanding healthcare system as well as promote these beautiful islands and Caymanian hospitality, which is unlike any other Caribbean island.”
This conference is expected to bring economic and tourism benefit to the Cayman Islands. “Attendees will be exposed to historical sites such as Pedro Castle, tastings of Caymanian delicacies such as cassava cake and turtle stew as well as venture to popular excursions such as Stingray City,” highlighted Mrs. Sherray Banks-Bailey, CPA Public Relations Officer and Conference Chair for the 2018 conference,.
The public is invited to attend the public forum on Tuesday, 14 August at the Victory Tabernacle Church on Eastern Avenue at 5:30pm. There will be a panel discussion that will address any health-related concerns attendees may have and free wellness checks. The public is also invited to bring their medications for free consultation.
