By Carlos Moore From Guyana Guardian
A 35-year-old man who is accused of killing his friend during a row over cigarettes, made his first appearance last week.
The 35-year-old murder accused Parsram Ramnauth appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates Court today, where the charge of murder was read to him.
It is alleged that on October 16 at Barakat Landing, Mazaruni River, Ramnauth, a miner, murdered 20-year-old Daniel George of Zeelugt, East Bank Demerara.
He was not required to plea to the indictable charge.
The police’s case is that George and Ramnauth are both known to each other and on the day of the incident, the two were imbibing at a shop when an argument erupted over cigarettes.
The prosecution stated that after the scuffle got heated, Ramnauth became angry and overpowered the 20-year-old; then fatally stabbing George in his abdomen and once to his right eye with a knife.
George was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Ramnauth will make his next court appearance on November 5.
