The Government of Dominica in the Caribbean has announced that construction of the long awaited geothermal power plant could start as early as in the third quarter of 2019 with funding recently announced by the IDB and Caribbean Development Bank, with funding by the World Bank.

As reported locally, the Government of Dominica in the Caribbean aims to start work on the planned geothermal power plant by the third quarter of 2019.

The project is located in the Roseau Valley, just outside of the capita of the island state and could provide a major boost for the local economy, according to Energy Minister Ian Douglas.

The geothermal project is one of the pillars of the Government to become a climate resilient country. The project has been supported by various international partners. The recently announced funding by the Inter-American Development Bank and Caribbean Development Bank, with funding by the World Bank, it seems like the project will now see the final stage, the construction of the actual power plant, to move forward.

The project is developed by Dominica Geothermal Development Company, a local company established by the government to push the project forward.

In March 2018, the World Bank announced that it would be providing more than US$17 million towards the development of a geothermal plant for Dominica.
