Tampon parts were left in hundreds of women – Kotex apologize

By Andrea Fernandes From Guyana Guardian

Kotex, a popular brand of Tampon; – the sanitary choice for many Guyanese women during their periods, has been blamed for a number of vaginal infections and other gynaecological problems that have occurred as a result of bits and pieces of the tampons being inadvertently left stuck in them.

Citing the scale of the problem, Kimberly-Clark, the manufacturer of the tampons has issued an urgent global recall of millions of units, claiming that the problem lies with the tampons that were made over a two year period, being from October 2016 to October 2018.

The global recall which was made just over a week ago is being issued for the Kotex Sleek Tampon – Regular Absorbency, which is a popular choice for women in Guyana, and the rest of the world.

However, even though the company has extended the recall to Guyana, an email exchange with an official at Kimberly-Clark today has proven that not a single local importer has returned any of the tampons. Moreover, no recall was announced by any agency or company in Guyana, with most retail outlets and supermarkets telling the Guyana Guardian that they are unaware that there was an issue with the tampons.

Thousands of women have claimed that after removing the Kotex Sleek Tampon – Regular Absorbency, they later develop gyno problems, only to discover that micro to larger components from the tampons had remained in them.

Though hundreds of women were compensated in the United States and Canada for their degrading experience with the tampons, It remains unclear as to how many women in Guyana were affected, and whether they would even be compensated for any health-related issues that were triggered by the faulty tampons.
