US: Madison woman faces gun charge in Cayman Islands
By Tom King From WSAU
MADISON, Wi (MetroSource-WSAU) A 68-year-old Madison woman faces years in a Cayman Islands prison after packing a gun in her luggage.
Carol Ann McNeill-Skorupan arrived at the islands on February 3rd on a Caribbean Cruise and received a notice that one of her luggage pieces was flown down to the George Town airport. X-rays showed there was a 0.25 caliber handgun and six rounds of ammunition in the bag.
Despite her claim that she has a Wisconsin concealed carry permit, officials in the Cayman Islands laid down their strict gun laws on her. She reportedly spent three nights in jail before being released on ten-thousand dollar bail and surrendering her passport.
If she’s convicted, she could face a mandatory seven-year prison term with a guilty plea and ten years if she’s convicted at trial.
