Celebrating Children in May

Besides being the most adorable and precious gifts on earth, there are many other reasons to celebrate the lives of children.

Expressions of appreciation for the boys and girls of the Cayman Islands will again be shared in May during the 16th annual Child Month observance.

The Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) are more than happy to organise an entire month full of events.

Activities, ranging from readings and scavenger hunts to board games and fitness instructions along with several public information sessions on Parenting, will highlight this year’s theme: Educate. Motivate and Advocate for All Children.

An addition, a Family Fun Day & Expo will be held at Pedro St. James on the Discovery Day public holiday (Monday, 21 May, 2012) from 12noon to 4:00p.m. This free, fun event will feature a sing-along musical performance by Bonafide, dance demonstrations, games and other activities.

Participants will also learn about the different services and resources available for the benefit of children.

Encouraging national participation, Minister of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing, the Hon. Mike Adam, MBE, JP, said, “We owe it to ourselves to nurture and nourish our children. How we treat them is key to the development of this country, for they are our future leaders.” He added, “Although Child Month is observed in May, I urge you to celebrate the children of these islands every month.”
