Air Belgium to launch flights to the Caribbean

Air Belgium has announced plans to start two new routes from its hub at Brussels Charleroi to the French islands Martinique and Guadaloupe in December 2019.
The new twice-weekly services to Pointe-à-Pitre on Guadeloupe and Fort-de-France on Martinique will be operated by the airline’s Airbus A340-300 aircraft. In total, the Belgian carrier has four A340s in its fleet. Three of them are currently leased to British Airways and LOT Polish Airlines. Both airlines operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and had to ground several jets of this type over the past two years due to ongoing issues with the Rolls Royce Trent engines.
With the new routes to the Caribbean, Air Belgium seeks to restart its scheduled passenger operations, which were terminated in autumn 2018 when the airline ended its only scheduled service from Brussels Charleroi to Hong Kong. Instead, the carrier focused on charter and wet-lease operations.
