Daikin’s new approach to IP deal-making
Last month, Japanese aircon giant, Daikin, became the latest Japanese company to open up a portfolio of patents for royalty-free licensing. The decision builds on years of similar patent initiatives by the company. Daikin has made other royalty-free pledges focused on emerging economies in the past, and it bet big on a technology transfer to China 12 years ago that helped supercharge its business. It’s a great example of a firm that creates value from patents despite not being litigious. And it shows that industry giants like Toyota and Tesla, each of which have made similar pledges, are by no means the only tech companies experimenting with this model. Could this lead the way for a new IP deal-making structure? Will it deliver positive outcomes? One particular session at IPBC Asia will delve deeper into these new approaches to IP-based transactions. A panel of leading international IP strategists will share their views on how new deal structures can deliver positive outcomes to all sides in a negotiation. Hear unique, real-world insights from: |
