The Jamaica Football Federation will host a FIFA Regional Goalkeeping Instructors’ Course (RGIC) beginning Monday, May 7 and ending on Friday, May 11.

The course will bring together a total of 26 goalkeeper coaches from the English-speaking CONCACAF countries and represents one of the largest FIFA courses held in Jamaica in recent times.

It will be held at the recently re-opened Braco Village Resort and Spa in Trelawny and will be under the direction of FIFA instructors Alexander Vencel and Paul Grafer.

Vencel is a retired Slovak goalkeeper, having played for Czechoslovakia and Grafer is a former goalkeeper at the MLS level in the United States, having played for Colorado Rapids and Metro Stars.

This course is a continuing effort by FIFA to assist in the development of the technical competence of instructors at the CONCACAF level.

Topics to be covered in the course include technical preparation, back passes; crosses; build-ups and reflex saves, the young goalkeeper, physical preparation and planning.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Braco Resort on Monday, May 7 at 9:30 a.m.  Jamaica’s representatives will include national senior team goalkeeping coach, Warren Barrett

Participating countries will be Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America and US Virgin Islands.

Over the recent period FIFA has opted to stage training seminars in Jamaica as the Jamaica Football Federation has developed a cadre of professional staff with the requisite skills to stage successful events.
