Man arrested in connection with armed bank robbery

The RCIPS have acted quickly in the robbery on Thursday (3) at Scotiabank in Cardinal Avenue, George Town by announcing a 25-year-old man has been arrested and is currently being detained in police custody in connection with the robbery.

The man has been charged on suspicion of robbery.

Police enquiries continue and police once again appeal for anyone who has information in relation to the robbery, or who witnessed the car being abandoned in Bronze Road, to come forward.

Shortly before 11.45 am on Thursday three masked men, two of whom were armed with what appeared to be firearms, entered Scotiabank in Cardinal Avenue, George Town.

The men threatened staff and customers before making off from the scene with a sum of cash.

No shots were fired during the robbery and none of the staff or customers were injured.

The suspects ran off from the bank and entered their getaway vehicle – a dark blue coloured Honda Accord saloon car that was parked, with a waiting driver, directly outside the bank. The car was then seen to drive off towards the Eastern Avenue area.

Police officers found the car abandoned in Bronze Road a short time after the robbery. Bronze Road is located behind the church of the New Testament off North Sound Road.

At the time of the robbery the car was displaying the number 138-805.

The suspects are described as follows:

  • Male, approximately 6ft 3 inches in height, dark coloured skin, stocky build, wearing a light blue hooded top, dark blue jeans
  • Male, approximately 5ft 7 inches in height, slim build, wearing a black hood and a brown/grey plaid print jacket, dark trousers
  • Male, approximately 5ft 7 inches in height, stocky build.
  • There is no description available at this time of the getaway driver.

Cardinal Avenue was busy at the time of the robbery. Anyone who was in the downtown George Town area and witnessed the crime, or the car/ suspects arriving at or leaving the scene, is asked to contact police. In addition, anyone who was in the Bronze Road  area and saw the suspects abandon the vehicle is asked to come forward.
