Police Confirm Identities and Appeal for Witnesses in Fatal Bodden Town Collisions, 26 November

Police can now confirm the identity of the deceased in the fatal collision which took place yesterday morning, 25 November, on Shamrock Road at the intersection with Mimosa Drive, involving a motorcycle and a school bus. He is Shaun Ryan Newell, age 35, a Jamaican national living in Cayman.

The RCIPS offers condolences to the family of the deceased.

A man, age 39 of Bodden Town, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, as part of the investigation into the incident. He has been granted bail as investigations continue.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision, which took place shortly before 7:00AM, to come forward. Police are particularly interested in speaking with the drivers of two vehicles: one travelling towards Bodden Town in the eastbound lane, and one travelling towards George Town in the westbound lane, which stopped to let the school bus exit onto Shamrock Road from Mimosa Drive; as well as a female pedestrian who was standing at the intersection when the collision occurred.

The roadway on Anton Bodden Drive and Condor Drive in Bodden Town is now clear and is open to the public.

UPDATE: 25 November – 9:30AM

The roadway for Anton Bodden and Condor Drive in Bodden Town will remain close as the investigation progresses. 

The collision was occurred just after 7PM last night, 24 November, when a member of the public reported that a man was found unresponsive in the vicinity of Leroy Fredericks Drive off Anton Bodden Drive and appears to have been struck by a vehicle.

It is believed that more than one vehicle was involved in the collision and all vehicles involved fled the scene. 

Police are seeking the assistance of the public with information concerning this collision. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220.
