PAHO warns Caribbean countries to prepare for heat waves
From RJR News Online
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is warning Jamaica and other Caribbean countries to prepare for possible heat waves.
The US, Australia, Canada, Europe, India, Pakistan and Japan are among the countries that have so far been affected.
PAHO warns that exposure to high temperatures may cause severe symptoms such as heat stroke.
It has developed communication materials for members of the public to be prepared, as well as a guide to help countries in the Americas formulate contingency plans to address heat waves.
The guide provides recommendations that the health sector and meteorological agencies can implement to prepare for and better respond to this threat as well as prevent the adverse effects of heat waves.
