Cayman Islands: Cayman Finance Year In Review 2019
Article by Cayman Finance From Mondaq
2019 has been an interesting year to say the least. From multiple office moves to engaging in debate with a UK Labour Party MP at the party’s conference, it is safe to say there have been challenges.
Nonetheless, it has been a very productive year for Cayman Finance – producing a body of work of which I am truly proud.
For the sixth consecutive year, Cayman Finance hosted our annual New York Breakfast Briefing at the prestigious Harvard Club of New York City. For the first time, we had both the Governor and the Premier not only attend but also speak at the event, in addition to the Minister of Financial Services. The Attorney General, as well as a senior delegation from CIMA were also part of the event and meetings arranged by Cayman Finance with correspondent banking partners in New York. We also leveraged the energy of our Reinsurance Committee to add a new event to our roadshow in New York. The Cayman Finance New York Reinsurance Roundtable was a popular addition and we are preparing for the second hosting in January 2020. While in New York, we also launched the fifth Cayman Finance jurisdictional magazine, which would not have been possible without the support of our members who not only advertised but penned articles for the publication.
To coincide with those events, we released the second in our series of Extender of Value booklets, ‘The Cayman Islands: An Extender of Value to the USA’, which detailed how our jurisdiction extends value to such a valuable business partner like the United States and poses no harm to its tax base.
