The Editor speaks: Why ALL lives matter and saying black lives matter doesn’t mean that other lives do not
I’m sorry I have to speak on this but when ‘Aunt Jemima’ brand is changing its name and removing the image of Aunt Jemima because Quaker says it is ‘based on a racial stereotype”, I have to speak out.
When has ‘Aunt Jemima’ ever been thought of as being racial? I have bought the brand because Aunt Jemima brings to my mind a picture of a woman who is a wonderful cook who knows delicious recipes.
Perhaps Quaker should change their name from ‘Quaker’ as that name can also be termed as being racial!?
“As we work to make progress toward racial equality through several initiatives, we also must take a hard look at our portfolio of brands and ensure they reflect our values and meet our consumers’ expectations,” Kristin Kroepfl, CEO of Quaker Foods North America, said in a statement. “We recognize Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype. While work has been done over the years to update the brand in a manner intended to be appropriate and respectful, we realize those changes are not enough.”
Aunt Jemima’s first appeared in1889 and perpetuates the “mammy” racial caricature of African American women, activists say.
The mammy caricature “portrayed an obese, coarse, maternal figure. She had great love for her white ‘family’.
What utter claptrap!! I feel sick.
Just hours later, the owner of the Uncle Ben’s brand of rice says the brand will “evolve” in response to concerns about racial stereotyping.
Land O’Lakes announced recently it would no longer use the Native American woman who had graced its packages of butter, cheese and other products since the late 1920s.
Exactly what has any of that got to do with the MURDER of another black person by racial thugs wearing a police uniform?
I have now been taken to task for saying ALL lives matter not just black lives.
According to my attackers saying “All Lives Matter” redirects the attention from Black lives, who are the ones in peril.
Excuse me. If you read any or all the many articles we have published from Freedom United, you will see it is not just black lives that are in danger.
We have published a story from them today “I was trafficked from the Philippines into modern slavery”. See: https://www.ieyenews.com/i-was-trafficked-from-the-philippines-into-modern-slavery/
When I shout “BLACK LIVES MATTER” I am not saying “ALL LIVES MATTER”. I will NOT change my stance on this.
SORRY.
ALL LIVES MATTER! EVER SINGLE ONE!!!!
His. Hers. Yours. ………. and MINE!!!
