Suspected Drowning Update: Man named
Further to yesterday’s (20) press release concerning the suspected drowning off 7-Mile Beach, the RCIPS can confirm that the body of 43 year old Stephen David Kinch of Canada was recovered at about 5:20 PM from the ocean floor by divers of the RCIPS’ Marine Unit. The body was transported to the South Terminal dock at George Town where a waiting George Town Hospital’s ambulance received it and transported it to the George Town Hospital’s Morgue pending a post mortem examination.
Officers of the RCIPS are continuing their investigation into the tragedy.
At about 3:13 PM yesterday 911 received a telephone call from a male who stated that he and his male friend were at sea in a nineteen foot boat between Calico Jacks and the Great House off 7 Mile Beach. The caller stated that his friend jumped into the water and did not resurface.
The Marine Units, and Xray 1 were dispatched to the area where the victim entered the water.
About 4:21 PM the victim was found on the bottom in about forty-five feet of water.
The Marine Units assisted by other divers are in the process of recovering the body.
