No More W: WGBH/Boston Rebrands To… ‘GBH’
WGBH EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION is rebranding its radio and TV stations, but the new brand is 75% of the old brand: News-Talk WGBH/BOSTON will be known as “89.5 GBH” and PBS affiliate WGBH-TV will go by “GBH.” Other stations owned by the organization, including WGBH radio affiliate WCAI/CAPE COD and Classical WCRB/BOSTON, will drop their Ws as well, and secondary PBS affiliate WGBX-TV/BOSTON will be known as “GBH 44.” The new logo is very similar to the long-running drop-shadow design used since the early 1970s, but now in purple with a change in font to Red Hat. The station said that the move reflects the company’s move away from being broadcast-centric in the new media environment. BOSTON agency MINELLI, INC. worked with the company on the new branding. “While our name is changing our mission remains the same: to harness the creative spirit and reach of public media to deliver compelling experiences, stories and information to audiences, wherever they are,” said Pres./CEO JOHN ABBOTT. “Our vision is to be a pioneering leader in media that strengthens, represents, and serves our community, fostering growth and empowering individuals.” “As technology, media and consumer expectations are evolving, so are we,” said Chief Marketing Officer TINA CASSIDY. “Our branding signals quality and reflects a vibrant and inviting place for our audience to engage, laugh, learn and be in community with others.” From All Access |
