The Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cayman (LC) group was immersed in productive conversation recently regarding the Financial Services landscape in the Cayman Islands. This took place within the programmes’ ninth seminar scheduled on May 9th, 2012. On the 7th floor of the Butterfield Place building in George Town, the evening kicked off with a social and discussion in the

“Chairman’s Den”. Participants got the opportunity to interact with some of Cayman’s leading and influential business entrepreneurs and decision-makers in the financial service sector. Throughout the seminar, LC members were exposed to a number of issues affecting the various facets of the Financial Services industry in the Cayman Islands, from the Regulator through to the Auditor. From

the Regulator’s perspective, the class explored the increasing burden of implementing and complying with Foreign jurisdiction requirements. From the Auditor and Fund Manager’s perspective, the group looked at whether the cost of doing business locally was going to have a detrimental effect on the competiveness of Cayman as a jurisdiction. Further discussions were held regarding the pertinent factors which continue to make the Cayman Islands a niche jurisdiction compared to competitors both on and offshore.
